Upgrading my computer

Running Qt. I will be setting up Soulseek on a new computer. How do I transfer my user list, ignore list, ban list, and saved searches to the new machine?

You're already logged in?

Hi,

I have just moved to a new laptop, installed soulseek NS again and received the above message. I therefore logged out of my account on the old laptop and selected a temporary user name, yet am still unable to login on my new PC.

Furthermore, I have just tried to login into my account on the old laptop again only to receive the same 'you're already logged in' message.

So now I have two laptops and cannot login to my account on either.

Your help would be appreciated.

Soulseek in China with VPN

Dear all,
Turns out, I cant live without Soulseek. I am China now though and it seems like I might have to. So as the Big Boss of this country controls what goes in and out of the web, the only way to use internet properly without censure, is with VPN. So I have a VPN, by Astrill. It seems like Soulseek and VPN arent working really well together.
My Soulseek gives this Error:
Login failed. Reported failure reason: socket error. Please change your login settings in the Options tab and try reconnecting.

When I go to OPTIONS window, I dont really know which TAB to go to. But first of all I clicked on CHECK PORTS. Than it directs to Soulseek website, saying this:

P: 198.105.217.4 Port: 55649/tcp CLOSED. Your router and/or Soulseek client needs to be configured correctly.
You may want to check this list of port forwarding guides for instructions specific to your router model.
Don't forget that you need to restart your client if you modify your listening port.

I have MAC OSx10.9.4. Also, I just upgraded my Macbook to this latest version, Mavericks, so maybe that's the problem

PLEASE help me :) In exchange I'll upload some absolute awesome Chinese music! ;)

Cannot share my files/folders. Please Help!

Hi,

I tried to download a folder from a user and it seems like I am not sharing no folders. When I type my username in the search, no file show up, even though I shared the root folder of my music library (containing subfolders). I have the TCP port found in the soulseekqt options window open in the outgoing and in-going rules in Windows.

Please help!
Thanks

Question about SLSK port

Hi,

I recently disabled port forwarding on my router but I can see that my Soulseek (NS135, the old one) still works - it can search, download and upload files. What am I missing or doing wrong, not forwarding the slsk port to the internet?

Thanks!

I am going to buy a new computer. I have privileges. Will I keep my user list and user notes or is there something else I need to do?

Mysterious problem since VPN use

Hi folks,

There's one user who I regularly download music from without problem and have done for a long time. Recently, while downloading from this user, I connected to a VPN (I live in Germany; the VPN has a UK IP) to watch a TV show, forgetting that Soulseek was running, and my downloads with this user were halted. When I disconnected from the VPN shortly afterwards, my downloads wouldn't restart.

Now, it's days later, my ports are both open, and I've restarted my PC and my broadband multiple times (I switch both off in the evening before I go to bed), and I still can't download from this user. I'm not banned, and I can still download from other users.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Problems with downloading

Hello! I'm using Soulseek 157 NS 13e version and I have problems with downloading files from some users. The problem is that download starts, remains on 0% for 4-5 minutes and then goes to FAILED status. Then client tries to download the next track and situation remains the same - 0% then FAILED. What's the problem? Who's to blame? =) Thank you in advance.

Hey! My Soulseek Client crashed a lot the last days. I recently updatd from 2014.06.15 to 2014.07.22 and after that it started.
After every crash all downloads in the queue are gone, which is a total bummer.

(OSX) Sharing files without giving away computer name?

Hi

I have Soulseek on Mac and I'd like to share my music but the path shows as, for instance:

Any idea how to hide the name of the user folder?

Help...Socket Frustration

$

I've been a fan of Soulseek for years...the last two have been frustrating as I work full-time and have been in a couple of music groups, so no time to spend trying to figure out the socket errors on SoulseekQT. It used to be easy to solve, now I'm finding it a nightmare. Been at this for 4 hours now, with port forwarding software, and still no luck. I have no idea how to configure my firewall beyond allowing Soulseek. I've reset my ISP to static, and set my port for forwarding. All I get is another ISP number coming back (using Comodo Security Suite) with the same damned error.

It used to be so simple. Why did it have to change?

Can someone out there help me with this? I'm not a techie, just a fairly intelligent user.

How to make set up a username and password?

$

Hi I'm brand new to Soulseek, so I'm sure I'm missing something simple.

So I open the program and it asks me to sign in with my username and password, but I was never given the option or asked to create a username and password so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to use.

I made an account on this site because I thought maybe once I did that I could use my name and PW from this site on the application but the application says that my password does not match, though it does work on the website (obviously, as I a posting this).

So where do I make my username and password so I can login?

A second issue I've had comes up when the app asks me for a folder I want to share (It does this even though I fail to login).
I pick my folder and it scans them all or what have, but as soon as its done the app becomes completely unresponsive, none of the buttons work, and I can't even close. Should I maybe try a smaller folder?

Anyway, any help would be very much appreciated!

Thank you

Can't Login & Data loss after format laptop

Hello,

Formatted my laptop yesterday (Win7 HomePremium to Win7 Ultimate) and cannot login in SoulseekQT anymore, and even tho i copied all the .dat files to new installation folders, userlist, settings and everything else isn't loading into soulseek. Or is that suppose to happen after login?

I think i forgot my password. tried the button Change Password with no luck..
Or is it the ports..? It's saying they are closed, but i dont understand what that is about since i had never trouble with that before, maybe some help is appreciated..

thank you!

Hi guys, hi Nir

At first big thanks to Nir for keeping this great service online. It is the best music enthusiasts platform ever established.

Today I tried the new version on my Mac running OSX 10.85.

After installing and setting up a self made folders under /Users/User/Musik/Soulseek/download and another under /Users/User/Musik/Soulseek/share
and choosing the folder share as sharing folder and then selecting share folder to users in my user list I finished the setup.

After this I can do nothing in Soulseek, pointing to a menu causes simply a sound message, It's like being stuck, I can do nothing even not quit Soulseek.
I only can quit the program via Finder > Terminate program at once. I tried different folders under e.g. Downloads, but the problem resists.
I also noticed that if you skip choosing a folder for sharing/downloading menus work, but you can't change the paths for both sharing/downloading.

Do I have to install something before running the QT version of Soulseek? Or maybe owner rights?

Help is gladly appreciated.

Thank you ...

j.

Ok, I may be dreaming, but I seem to remember something about creating an off-line directory or file on DVD, and users are able to search these files and request a file be uploaded or placed in the on-line share folders. The owner of the file copies the file from whatever off-line storage medium and when the upload is complete removes the file from the share folder to await the next request.

Please tell me if this is possible and give any information you might have on how to do this and how you show the list of the off-line files.

Something also is in the mist of my brain, that you can have these off-line list or lists available for view by other users.

Please be kind, and no I am not smoking funny cigarettes. This is becoming more important every day as I am running out of space on my HDDs, and until I can get an NAS or RAID this would be a possible affordable solution.

Thanks All

Hi Guys

Recently my Windows 7 died, so I had to do a factory restore.

I managed to back up the Soulseek folder in the hidden ProgramData folder.

However when the wishlist.cfg shows the last edited time was back in 2012.

What happened? I had been adding new tracks into the wishlist all this time, and the wishlist had been working fine with no missing items every time I start soulseek.

So I copied the saved wishlist.cfg to the new soulseek folder after I reinstalled my computer, the wishlist is still where it was back in 2012, all the tracks I have added between back then until now are missing.

What is going on here?

Super slow indexing. 4+ hours. Help!

This has been asked before, but never really answered.

I have a very large collection (831gb, 159k files), and when I start Soulseek, it takes about 4 hours or more to index. Is there a way for me to disable indexing so I can index when I choose? (if not, this would be a GREAT feature) Maybe a certain disk optimization that I have been unable to discover during my research that can speed it up?

I have both the QT and the NS version, but I run 157NS13e 99% of the time, as I greatly prefer it to the QT interface. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. One other quick note, I am a supporter and not just a leecher. Over the years I've probably donated $75-$90 :-). I love Soulseek, use it a LOT, so will always support it. Plus, i enjoy gifting privileges to users whom I download a lot from.

I'd be happy to gift some privileges to somebody who can tell me how to correctly fix this! Really!

Here is my system stats: (Soulseek is on C: which is an SSD, but music files are on G:)
