password issues

$

Had forgotten my password when I bought a new computer. Had been using soulseek for ages on old computer.

Now I cannot log in. No matter what I do in the client, it just tells me I have wrong username/password and even if I change them, client doesn't seem to recognise change.

Obviously, as logged in here, I have a working combination.

Have tried uninstalling client and reinstalling, but no love there. An thoughts?

Would really rather not reformat computer.

Thanks

Crashes on Mac build 2014.6.15

Getting a lot of crashes on OSX 10.9.2, Soulseek client 2014.6.15. Seems to be related to adding transfers...

Is there a way to get you logs or otherwise help track down the bug?

Malicious User

There is a user in the +Black Metal+ and Indie rooms that switches usernames at least five times a day and spams ascii, random offensive text, links to pornography and boasts about how he can't be ignored (switching usernames multiple times daily and often). He is identified by an Angola flag, red top, black bottom with a golden star in the middle and his ip address is 41.70.147.74, port 2489. Here is a list of usernames that was put together shortly for this post. As you can see this is another Lizzyta situation.

Rooms and Browse functions don't work

$
0
0

So when I click on my Rooms tab, I get a solid blank field, with no right click options or options in the menu bar. The same thing happens for Browse. It's been like this for a while, but I never really missed the functionality because I don't really talk to people anyways, but I figure I might like to do that now and I can't. I just updated from the 2013.11.6 build or whatever it was to the 2014.6.5 build, and the problem persists. Any suggestions?

Can see in search but cannot download from ever-increasing number of users

I'm using Nicotine, because my machine(s) all run Ubuntu, always in the latest upgraded and updated versions. So I think this problem just might be Nicotine-specific, but I don't know, because I don't have any Windows machines with Soulseek on them to compare it with. Anyway, this is very frustrating because it always affects the most desirable potential downloads: people with no queues, with high rated speeds, and with high bitrate copies of whatever it is I want. I try to right-click and download folder from them, and nothing happens. If I try to download from them file by file, I can sometimes get individual files from the desired folder to appear in my downloads pane, but I still can't download them, because the downloads pane registers them as not connected. Yet there they are in the search pane, often quite a lot of them. I have experienced up to half a dozen of these inaccessible users in a single search, right-clicked and selected download folder, and seen nothing on my downloads pane at all. Then, again in this same search, I would select some less desirable-looking instance of the same target folder, for instance slower, or lower bit-rate, or queued for downloads by other users, and get a perfectly normal response. This didn't start at the time I first began using Nicotine, it's more recent. It's never fatal, in that I can always find copies of the things I want, but it's still very frustrating. Who are all these people, who seem to be the cream of the crop, and why are they inaccessible for downloads but still accessible for search?

SoulseekQt should advance to and select next item when deleting from queue

When navigating my upload queue via keyboard (the up & down arrow keys), I sometimes press Delete to remove some items. When I do that, I expect SoulseekQt to advance the current selection so that it is the next item in the list.

What actually happens when you delete a file, folder, or user from the queue is you get into a state where a previous item (which one varies depending on what you delete) is partially selected. The whole line isn't highlighted, just part of it. You can go up or down from there, but you can't do anything else with that line until you navigate back to it. In some cases, like when you delete the only folder someone has queued, the current selection seems to reset entirely, so pressing the down arrow makes you jump to the top of the list.

It would be great if SoulseekQt would behave consistently when Delete is pressed, always advancing to the next item on screen, and fully selecting that item.

Soulseek should really find another way to accept donations. Paypal seems to be colluding with the NSA et. al. And just stealing money.

Paypal just suspended the crowd funding for ProtonMail, a secure email site in beta.

Old Settings

My hard disk got crashed & I got a new one. I managed to copy the installation folder to the new hard disk. I've read the FAQs here & read that you can not get your old username back if you haven't used the application for over a month unless you have donated. I'm not sure if a month has passed by since I used soulseek (I have the NS version) but I want to know how to get my old settings back. That is, I want all my queue lists, members' list, wishlist etc back. There are a lot of config files in the installed folder but I was unable to save any file from C:/users/appdata folders. When I copy these files to the new installed soulseek, it either goes corrupt or still asks me for the new username. Should I provide my older one there? Which files should I copy to get my lists back?

Hey,

My computer died and I have to reload Soulseek. i was using an older version as I preferred it over the newer versions, i think it was like v3.1 final. I know there was a list one time of all the older versions that you could download, but for the life of me I cant find it anymore.

Does anyone know where I can find the old version to download?

Thanks

Bitrate Problem

The problem with Bitrates and times showing up wrong information in your shares has been an age old problem with SoulseekNS.
The problem only happens when you change or edit the ID tags,i use wi9namp and always get the same problem.
Solution:- download the free version program DBPoweramp and re encode the files to there original Bitrate.Do not re encode to a higher bitrate than the original file as this may effect the audio in your file,so if you know your file is @192kbps but its showing 128 or 64 just re encode to 192.After this log out of soulseek and when you log back in your file/s will so the correct bitrate and time.Doing this does not effect the audio quality as long as you re encode to its original bitrate.Anyhow it works for me.Hope this helps

Not an COM\API request.

Hi Nir et al,

I've read your previous posts on open-sourcing slsk so I'm not going to bother you about that specifically, however my question is of a similar nature.

I've had an idea for a while now that I'd like to have a go at. It requires making a really simple client and connecting to the network.

I guess my question is twofold. Firstly, do you take issue with people developing and connecting with their own clients? And if not, is there any documentation you'd be willing to share about the request–response structure?

I've been looking at the numerous projects already in existence but you can't beat first hand information...

Cheers!

File names missing in Transfer folders

Hi everyone!
For some reason I can't see filenames within the overarching folders in the transfer section (ie tracknames). Everything downloads fine, the files names are just missing in the application itself. Any leads? Hoping this is just a setting I haven't caught yet!

Andrew

Soulseek and NAS shared folders?

Hi,

I am trying to share a folder (a shared network drive from my NAS) but every time I do this, it just disappears from the list of Soulseek shared folders.

Now I googled and it seems SLSK cannot use network drives for shared folders?

Can anyone confirm there is no workaround?

Many thanks!

Recurring problem

I've got this problem that occurs something like once a year-year and a half.
I open Soulseek, and all of a sudden it asks me to login. I immediately recognize that it happened again and that all of my data is lost.
All my user list is gone, the downloaded folders I kept in list for my own order, my sharing folders aren't there and it's not so fun to pick those folder one by one again (again, because of my own order of things), and my long and precise wish list.
Last time it happened I'm pretty sure someone told me it'll change with the new version that I got at the time. If it's indeed true I'd like to know at least how to retrieve my user list, which is the most important part for me.

btw, I'm talking about a problem that happened to me since the 7-8 years I've been using Soulseek and through that time changed computers and of course, versions of soulseek.
I'm not too disappointed, because I've found my own ways to get most of the users back, and also cause I love Soulseek and I realize these things happen, but if there's any solution out there or could be one for future occurrence, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks
Ofri
