For the last few builds, I have had major problems using Soulseek. It has been the first time in 12 years that I've had any such issues. I am on a Windows 7 PC.

The problem:

When I open SoulseekQt, things function for a very short period of time. Sometimes, for only a few seconds; other times, for up to a minute. But then my internet connection dies and sometimes briefly comes back, on and off, until I close Soulseek. As soon as I do that, the internet again functions properly. While Soulseek is running, the internet will function normally only for a few moments at a time before again going out. Not only Soulseek's connection is affected by this problem--the internet connection dies across the entire computer. Other machines on the network, however, are NOT affected. This problem happens during both wireless and wired connections, but the wired connection is much more likely to slow to a crawl than to completely disappear. I'm most often connected wirelessly.

For some reason, the Soulseek client itself functions very, very slowly during a wired connection. Lots of (Not Responding), hang, and all-around slowness. It takes several minutes just to get the program to respond so that I can quit it. The last time I checked in the Task Manager, the memory use was a staggering 1,350,000 K, though I have no current downloads or uploads. This happens regardless of whether or not I am downloading, uploading, or searching for something.

My ports are properly configured and, when the internet works, Soulseek's check verifies this. Firewall exceptions are in place. No anti-virus conflicts. No other programs, file-sharing or otherwise, have these issues when Soulseek is not running.

Can you suggest anything? I really want to keep using Soulseek. It's like family, after all these years! But I don't know what to do. I have no other ideas and could find no solutions that worked for me. Thank you so much for any help or suggestions you can offer, and thanks for reading this long post. It really means a lot.

Not only does this user ask to be payed for sharing his files, he also forbids to share them along.

I feel Soulseeks strengh lies in its community and a certain etiquette that goes along file sharing. Furtunately, this seems to be a relatively rare practice, but it contradicts in everyway what filesharing is about.

I have not revealed the users alias and email on purpose, as I wanted to consult this forum first.

Is this kind of practice tolerated by Soulseek ? Does it comply with the TOS ?

I am sharing a folder of epubs and pdfs. Only a portion are showing as shared. Some are in subfolders and other are Rar'd. Does the shared folder option not read subfolders or Rar'd titles?

Hello. I've been using Soulseek for a long time, but I noticed that many users are having troubles to download files from me.
I see a lot of files that are in "Subiendo" status (I have Spanish language) and then changes to "Abortada" in red characters. Too many users had reported me that they cannot download nothing.

I'm using version 2016.1.24, (I tried 2015.6.12 with same results) under windows xp. Must say that I can download any file without problems, so I think I have my router configuration right. My user is "adriman"

I have a problem with soulseek
since 3 days my downloads dont start anymore and aborting ....i realy want to know why but i couldnt find the log files on my mac

Another nubie here, asking a n00b question: How do I share exacly? I've created a share folder and hooked it up.
But do I just add stuff to that folder? Is that it?
And, (2) are there any rules on what can be shared? I mean, can it be any music, say? And does it need to be, say, categorized somehow?
Cant wait to get started and I dont wanna get banned on my first day...

So I was trying to organize files, so I opened up a ton of windows so I could just drag and drop the files from the windows and close the windows as necessary. So this is where the story begins, I opened all these windows and the program basically froze, but not only soulseek, my entire windows program seemed to glitch, only allowing me to access task manager and other programs, but not soulseek or explorer.exe. So, I tried restarting explorer.exe in task manager, then I restarted my computer when soulseek wouldn't open. So I tried opening soulseek again on re-open, lo and behold it does not open. So I tried system restore, I tried reinstalling it at the expense of my current downloads being lost, I tried messing around with compatibility settings. Lo and behold, the system will still not open.

Something is either seriously fucking up my program or there is some elegant little gremlin which is causing a simple but obscure problem. Either way, I need your help.

I use SoulseekQt for Mac and at first place it was working ok.
But once it destroyed my SSD hard disk. i used to download and share from the SSD of my Mac and one morning it crashed. Even after formatting the SSD it didn't work.
The second time i used an external HDD connected with USB and happened the same.

Does anyone know why is this happening?

Version: SoulseekQt-2015-6-12/SoulseekQt-2016-1-24 OS - Windows XP SP3.

• Type of Bug: Process ends prematurely.
• Description: When trying to double-click/open the process, SoulseekQt crashes.
Before this the program worked flawless.

Using SimpleProgramDebugger from Nirsoft, the debug string displayed is "QtLockedFile::lock(): file is not opened".
I guess that the problem may be caused by using an obscure Registry Cleaner, which may removed some empty registry entries.
Please help me to fix this.
Please recommend me another good debugger tool to post the report.

When I choose "Set Folder Permissions" and put daw on "folder is visible for everyone", other box clear.

Hi, trying to improve my seeding to help the community. First off I want to say that I know an official connection problem thread already exists, however its last post was 4 years ago and I wasn't having this problem until this year on a newer computer with a different ISP.

I know that my ISP (Telus) does not throttle torrents but my upload in SLSK is just TERRIBLE. It hovers between 20 and 50 kb/s.
Meanwhile my bittorrent speeds are usually around 5 mb/s.
Sometimes users have no problem downloading from me, it just takes a very long time. More often however the uploads will fail a second after and no amount of retries fixes it. I've confirmed in these cases that the users are still online and that they're actually capable of downloading faster than what my upload speed is.

I've got my router set to allow traffic in and out of the port I entered in soulseek. That same port also has a green light in qbittorrent to show everything's all good.
canyouseeme.org says that my soulseek port is open, but the soulseek website says it's closed. I don't know why there's a difference - type of traffic maybe? I have UPNP enabled anyway to try and fix things and it's not helping.

Also if I update to a new version of Soulseek will it finally display Japanese text and other unicode? I can't share most anime soundtracks nor look for them due to the limitation.

For apparently no reason my client started using up to 30% of CPU and became unusable, even if downloads and uploads seemed to be working properly. I tried re-scanning my shares (almost 120.000 files) and even reinstalling the app, but nothing changed. The only thing that worked was clearing and than re-sharing my files.

Why could this happen? And what can I do to prevent it?

I have not made any changes to my MAC or its programs. My soulseek started aborting every download and continues to do so. My port status has failed when i checked it with the tcp port status tool. I am a novice at best and truly don't know what i can do to fix it. I've tried reading through the forums but sadly can't understand a lot of whats said. i appreciate any help or insight that can be thrown my way.

I'm a new soulseek user and i want to know how to find people and download some files.

Could somebody please help me? I've gone to Options->File Sharing. I then click Share Folder and go to my /Users/Home/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music. I then click the box that makes it accessible to everyone. I see that I can uncheck this box, and then a box at the bottom appears that makes files visible to everyone. I'm not sure what the difference between "accessible" and "visible" is. I then go to Users and see my user name there with the blue bird, wings open, and the number of files that I have, somewhere in the 800s, under Files. People keep sending me messages though that I am not sharing. Is there something little that I am missing? I have so much music to share, and I don't want to get banned. Any Advice? A couple days ago, I ran cleanup software on my mac to free up memory. Ever since, when I've tried to open the client, i immediately get a pinwheel of death and the program freezes/doesn't launch. It also uses >1GB of RAM immediately. I uninstalled and reinstalled the newest build several times, with no success.
Any advice?
