EASY step by step guide to installing on Linux?

Every guide I find on this is not easy enough for a Windows user to understand. I'm new to Linux and understand very little of it. I like it so far but figuring out how to do some things is difficult. I have no clue how to install Soulseek on Mint. I downloaded the 64 bit version but I have no idea what to do with this file. This isn't Windows so you don't just click on it. Is there a step by step cookbook for Soulseek for people migrating from a different OS? I've managed to figure some Linux things out but only because they were similar to Windows. Installing programs isn't one of them. I'm guessing I have to do things in terminal? I'm ok with that but I don't know the commands. Anyone help this Windows dummy?

can't instal soulseek

Hi,

I had some issues with the newly downloaded soulseekQt so I decieded to uninstall it and reinstall it...but now can't even instal the latest version, here what it says when I click on instal

"Error opening file for writing;
C;\Program Files (x86)\SoulseekQt\SoulseekQt.exe"

anyone can help? never had any problems with soulseek older version was off the internet for quite a while and since I've downloaded the Qt version which visually seems better to me than the older one I haven't been able to make it work properly and now won't even download...

help appreciated...can't wait to start sharing and browsing ...

I cannot login

Hi,

Since I reinstalled my laptop, I'm unable to login with the client. I changed my password several times to make sure my passoword (which is quite long) wasn't the problem. But with a short password, it didn't work either.

Logging in on this website works perfectly, but in the client it doesn't work. Maybe I'm on a blacklist or something? Because after reinstalling, I forgot my password and tried to login by guessing my own password.

I hope someone out there can help me as I find myself in a rather unique situation. After many years of being absent from IRC, I set up my file server again using an older version of IRC, 6.35. Everything was going smoothly until I started using SoulseekQT, and about 50% of the time when Soulseek was connected, my DCCs on mIRC wouldn't work. Now they have quit working altogether. I've tried all combinations, uninstalling and reinstalling both in different orders, different versions of mIRC, deleting all the registry keys for each, and so on. THe most common issue with mIRC seems to be a problem with the IP look up and restriction of firewalls and antivirus software. There's never been an IP problem and I've tried every combination of turning the firewall and antivirus off as well as fiddling with port forward on the router, antivirus, and Windows firewall. NONE of this is the issue, so it's got to be something that Soulseek has done in the registry. Even though I thought I had all the Soulseek registry keys deleted, clearly I missed something because when I downloaded Soulseek to reinstall it, my preferences, username, etc. all remained unchanged and present.

Any and all help is appreciated, even if someone can just give me a list of all the Soulseek and/or mIRC registry keys so that I may try deleting ALL of them once again.

Hi all,
I would like to know why browsing users in PC shows a result different when do the same in Mac. I found users in the PC client that can't be reached/localized using SoulseekQT in Mac.
Is there any way to make them compatible?

Hello, here are some suggestions I think will improve the experience with the program.

*Option to start the program maximized(full screen)
*Option to start the program minimized in the task bar tray.
*Option to start the program with the Operating System

Basically I want to set it up in a way that it stays hidden. Turn on my PC, it starts, hides in the tray ready for use and for other user to download my files.
Now I am using another program to start it with Windows, it's always windowed and I have to minimize it every time.

Reported Upload Speeds

Hello

Can anyone tell me how the upload speed of a user gets calculated?
It is not the maximum and it is way to low because i have a upload of 300Kb/s but the reported speed is much lower because some people seem to be downloading on a 56k line...
Off course one can unshare files from those people but that doesn't seem fair

If I want a new line in my personal info, bij pressing Enter, I know that users of SoulseekNS don't see this new line, all is typed as one big line. Is there a solution for that ?

Gap between sentences

Sometimes I want to use extra gaps between 2 sentences or between two words in a sentence of a chat, to make something more obvious. However the gaps don't show in the message. The same problem occurs in my text for users that don't share.
Also when I use a new line in my users info, by pressing the Enter button, the users of SoulseekNS, see all the text without new lines in it.

Maximum number of queued uploads per user

The maximun number of queued uploads per user can be set. However it's a number for everyone. Is it possible to move this option to 'Configure user groups', so you can change this number for special usergroups ?

Occasional issue: user's folder contents will not always show first time

Well, I wonder if anyone of you guys ever got that issue.

You did as you always did, select a user from your Userlist and browsed him/her.
However, when the Browse window appeared, you might have noticed that some folders appeared empty.

'Ah, simple as that,' you exclaim, 'the folders were just empty on the user's media!'

Hah, no, it's not that simple. Actually, THEY ARE THERE. You just can't see them first time.
Close browse window, and rebrowse same users. Automagically, the folders are now filled up with file entries.

(Vague assumption for the reason of this: user is just at that very moment you're browsing him/her about to get his/her shared folders rescanned. And you're jumping in there in mid-air, hence...)

Hello, I found one that in a resolution with, say, x = 1280 pixels, the SoulseekQt window will almost occupy the whole width of the screen. It has proved itself to be very stubborn towards any attempts to get the window shrunk further in horizontal (X) direction.

I tried to check if it's related to the widths of columns (Folder, File, ETA etc.; maybe I've set them too wide?) but it seems it's rather independent of it.

2013.2.12/win7: downloads complete before 100%

I have frequent issues with 2013.2.12 completing transfers before they reach 100%. In other words download is half-way but marked complete and I cannot retry either. I have to delete download and try again. I just enabled logs and will check if there is anything there with next downloads.

SoulseekQT not sharing all files in my folders?

Using QT build 2013.2.12....

I'm sharing two folders, together they have about 1310 files. If I go to a chat room, and find my name in the user list, it says I'm sharing 1310 files. But if I browse my own files, I see only about 12. Another user told me he browsed my files and only saw a few files too, so I know its not just me who sees this, but everyone.

I tried having QT re-scan my folders, but it didn't change - and completed instantly, so I don't think it really re-scanned anything.

I tried removing the folders from my list of shared folders, exiting QT, restarting, and adding the folders back. Still the same result.

Is there any work around for this?
